1. Complexity of Medical Imaging

3D Volume

Medical imaging data is not composed of simple 2D images, but of multiple stacked slices that form 3D data with volumetric and depth information.

Multiple Imaging Sequences

Even within the same anatomical region, multiple imaging sequences such as MRI T1, T2, and contrast-enhanced images exist depending on the imaging purpose, making analysis more complex.

Latent Data Characteristics

Large-scale medical datasets often contain latent variables that are difficult to identify through conventional visualization methods alone.

Domain Shift

In addition, differences in clinical environments, including hospitals, imaging devices, and acquisition settings, can result in variations in image characteristics, even when the same imaging protocol is used.

2. Limitations of Tokens and Context Windows

Explosion of 3D Data

Brain MRI data consists of high-resolution 3D volumes composed of hundreds of slices, resulting in an input scale that is structurally excessive for direct processing by LLMs.

Escalating Costs

Token consumption increases rapidly when 3D medical images are used as direct inputs, and cost burdens can accumulate quickly even with patient-level analysis.

Information Overload

Performance degradation and reduced ability to effectively process information are difficult to avoid when large-scale imaging data is provided, even with extended context lengths.
